Chinese Ambassador in Athens: GDP up by 5% in the first half of the year

During the recent press conference released by the Chinese Ambassador in Athens about the new era of the economy in the country, XIAO Junzheng gave some figures about the current performance and future direction of Chinese economy.

Specifically, the Ambassador XIAO Junzheng stated:

“According to data released by China’s National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on 15 July, China’s gross domestic product (GDP) in the first half of the year was 616,836 billion yuan, up 5% year-on-year, fully meeting the target set at the beginning of this year. Among them, investment in high-tech industries has grown rapidly, and in the first half of the year, China has set up more than 30 national manufacturing innovation centers, with more than 10,000 “little giant” firms, nearly 500,000 newly built 5G base stations, and more than a dozen Artificial Intelligence Data Centers with high-performance computer clusters in the planning stage. Import and export trade has performed well, and the foreign economy has made a major breakthrough. In the first half of the year, net exports of goods and services contributed 13.9% to China’s economic growth. In terms of total foreign trade, both year-on-year growth and cumulative monthly growth were reversed from 2023, with not only a full turnaround, but also a decent growth rate.
On the whole, China’s economic performance in the first half of the year was generally stable, and the green content and new quality components of economic development continued to improve. Looking around the world, China’s economy continues to perform relatively well and remains an important engine of growth and a stabilizing force in the world economy”.
